My name is Erika Dupree and I am the new head volleyball coach for Poteet High School. I am extremely blessed and excited to join the Mesquite Poteet community as it is a very special place to me. I attended Kimball Elementary, Kimbrough Middle and graduated from Poteet High School, so I know firsthand about the Mesquite education system. I am so happy to come home to the place that taught me so much about success, character, and excellence during my younger years.
My four years as a Varsity volleyball starter led me to a top Division II program at West Texas A&M. During my time at WT, I was a vital part of 5 consecutive conference championships and 2 DII National appearances, which included a National Championship match. After playing in college, I was an assistant volunteer coach at WT for one year and experienced playing professional volleyball overseas. I am entering my 8th year as a high school English teacher and volleyball coach, and previously worked at McKinney North, Plano Senior, and Allen High School. Also, I was a coach for my alumni club, Dallas Premier, from 2013-2018.
With our playing and coaching journeys, I have all grown up in the gym and in a competitive environment. I have always dreamed of having an impact on students and players and consider it a payback to all the coaches and teachers that have helped shape me. Our expectations for the program are four core values: character, discipline, faith, and love, so that our players may earn the life they want for themselves . We want this program to help our girls understand that they can achieve anything in life as long as they never accept anyone telling them that it can’t be done. Good things come to those who work hard and give their best effort.
